Crisis Hotlines & Immediate Support (24/7)

National & Broad-Access Crisis Lines

  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline – Call or text 988 for immediate mental health, emotional distress, or suicidal crisis support anywhere in the U.S. including Houston; trained counselors can support de-escalation, safety planning, and local referrals.

  • Crisis Text Line – Text HOME to 741741 for free, confidential, 24/7 crisis support via text message.

  • Crisis Intervention of Houston Hotline – Local confidential crisis counseling. Call 832-416-1177 (English/Spanish).

  • Crisis Intervention of Houston Youth Line – Teens call 832-416-1199 or text 281-201-4430 for youth-focused crisis support.

In an immediate danger situation — where someone may harm themselves or others — call 911 and specify it’s a mental health emergency so responders with Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) are dispatched.

Behavioral Health Facilities & Psychiatric Hospitals

(These facilities often offer inpatient or specialized psychiatric care and may accept crisis referrals; contact them directly for admission criteria.)

  • West Oaks Hospital – Behavioral health hospital.

  • Houston Behavioral Healthcare Hospital – Behavioral health facility.

  • Behavioral Hospital of Bellaire – Mental health treatment hospital.

  • The Menninger Clinic – Psychiatric hospital (evaluate for crisis admission on case-by-case basis).

Tips for Crisis Use

  • Always encourage 988 first for immediate crisis support — it’s free, nationwide, and accessible by call, text, or chat.

  • For life-threatening emergencies, call 911 immediately and clarify it’s a mental health crisis.
